Scenes from the Red Carpet at the 2013 GA Music Awards

It was a sea of fashion on the red carpet at the 2013 GA Music Awards on June 8th.  Some of Georgia's favorite singers donned gorgeous dresses and suits, and wowed the fans in the most pleasant ways, as they arrived at the Buckhead Theatre in Atlanta.

While there, I had the pleasure of speaking with Omar McCallop, the founder of the GA Music Awards.  He told me that in spite of the growing pains, he is pleased with the awards and the positive energy of the artists and fans alike.  In fact, the awards are so well-received that in addition to the Carolina Music Awards, he is expanding to Virginia, Florida and Tennessee over the next few years.
He stated, "The GA Music Awards is like a two-year-old ... cute, cuddly, but can still fall. To keep from doing so, you must gain the support of people who love what they do, and take leaps in order to do it a bit differently.  The evening is about comradery, meeting others, thanking the fans and coming together to support one another."

Currently, Omar is working on the Atlanta Music Project (AMP), a nonprofit that provides intense music education for underserved youth in their neighborhoods. The Atlanta Music Project offers orchestra and choir programs.  All AMP programs are rigorous ... classes take place three to five days per week, for two hours each day.
